Sheet: Supporting Community Employment as an Employment Outcome
"Whose Job Is It Anyway?"
On the surface, this seems to be a simple question, since
all Community Rehabilitation Programs (CRPs) want to support
individuals with disabilities in their job choices. Service
providers must empower their “customers” with
disabilities to make informed choices and promote active participation
in the decision making process. This fact sheet provides some
answers on how to support individuals with disabilities when
they decide if they want to go to work in a community business.

Jesse Price has been receiving services from the mental health
system in Washington D.C. for more than 32 years. It began
when he was in graduate school. He was having some problems
and sought services in a private mental system. At the time
they didn't have any beds at the hospital that he went to,
so he was placed in a public mental hospital under the court
order for 2 weeks. It was a shock for him and it really changed

(BWE), and using Property Essential to Self Support (PESS)
that allow unlimited cash resources in small business accounts
not subject to the SSI $2000 personal resources limits. Mr.
Hammis will explain how Vocational Rehabilitation and Workforce
Investment Act (WIA) funding interact with net earnings from
self employment. Lastly, he will cover other critical issues
related to self employment such as Medicaid, Section 8, and
