Kay Miller

Topic: Staff Training and Development

Presenter: Kay Miller, Central Piedmont Community College

Kay F. Miller, M.Ed., is currently the Program Chair of the Developmental Disabilities Program at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, NC. Prior to this position she coordinated two federally funded distance learning personnel projects at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte which addressed the transition from school to the community for students with disabilities and supported employment for adults with severe disabilities. Ms. Miller is also well known in North Carolina as a presenter at workshops and conferences in Supported Employment services. Other experiences in the area of work supports have included the coordination of the activities of a systems change grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services (OSERS) to improve and expand the provision of community-based employment services to individuals with severe disabilities in Louisiana. Ms. Miler also provided training and technical assistance in supported employment to over 90 agencies and businesses across Louisiana as a consultant to the Louisiana Supported Employment Network. She also developed and managed one of the first supported employment programs for adults with mental retardation and long term psychiatric disabilities in New Orleans. In addition, she has supervised and provided support services for individuals with disabilities and their families across the lifespan in a variety of community based services.
